Uzbekistan 3 - Saudi Arabia 1 : White Wolves move through to semi finals of the AFC

Uzbekistan has sealed progression to the Asian Cup knockout stages with a 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia in Melbourne. After only 90 seconds Saudi Arabia gave away possession in its own half, allowing Sardor Rashidov to race into the penalty area and slot the ball between the legs of keeper Waleed Abdullah to make it 1-0. Saudi player Mohammed al Sahlawi in the 60th minute equalised with a contested penalty in the box. However within ten minutes a great cross by Shavkatjon Mulladjanov to the back post the substitute Vokhid Shodiev powered a header into the net to make it 2-1. Uzbekistan made sure of the game by scoring again with just 11 minutes to go with Rashidov going wide of Saudi Keeper Abdullah for his second goal of the night.

The win has given Uzbekistan second place in group B and a quarter-final clash with South Korea at  6:30 p.m. Thursday the 22nd January at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium. It w ill be a tough match but with the white wolves on a roll they will hopefully again rise to the occasion. Head coach Mirjalol Kasymov  said after the match 'We really wanted to win the match and our spirit was fighting. If we continue to play like this, I think we can achieve great success".
